Overview

Koemi never speaks of his family unless asked. He usually says he doesn’t have much to say, nor any thoughts on them, but there are more times that he recounts negative experiences rather than positive ones. He would speak on how at a young age his parents were always busy with work, leaving him and his older sister in the care of their grandmother. Despite this, Koemi’s parents were always able to provide a comfortable living environment. At some point, his father’s work required them to all move to Japan, which only caused both parents to be away from their children more often due to the increased need for labor.Koemi is only a year younger than his sister, but after their move to Japan and seeing their parents less, she became his caretaker. He says he doesn’t understand it himself, but at some point under the full care of his sister, he stopped relying and seeking help from others. He vaguely mentions times where his sister would completely disregard his emotional needs, or even say that she would “not protect him”. The way Koemi speaks about his sister is strange, considering how he claims that Rinne reminds him of her, and he has shown at times how fond he is of Rinne.

She used to dress Koemi in “girls clothing” up until his first year at Reimei Academy. He doesn’t know the exact reason for this, but will usually say being dressed in girls clothing and keeping his hair long was due to his mother wanting him and his sister to look like twins. Koemi states that growing up, he would be told his physical appearance is more similar to his mother.When recalling memories of his mother, Koemi will only say “she worked a lot”; even saying that while pregnant with him, she never stopped working. It’s commonly assumed that Koemi was the child to cling to his mother most compared to his sister, possibly due to her teachings on “never trust anyone outside your family” and the isolation she has placed him in during his upbringing.Koemi jokes around that his fear of the dark stems from his mother punishing him by locking him in a dark room whenever he would be troublesome.The black and gold bracelet he wears on his right wrist is a gift from his mother, she wears a matching one as well. The earrings and necklaces Koemi is seen wearing in his casual clothing are also gifts from his mother.

Koemi describes the relationship between him and Ei as “complicated”. Growing up, Koemi always thought his parents preferred Ei over him, he quietly grew bitter towards her because of this. Though when Koemi was born, Ei was more than overjoyed.Ei and Koemi do share a close bond, closer than Koemi leads on. Ei is the one person who seems to know “everything and anything” about Koemi, even the secrets he keeps from his parents and words he doesn’t allow himself to say to others.Ei grew up relatively fast to be able to take on that “guardian” role for Koemi, as their parents were always busy with work, so it was more often that she was referred to as his secondary mother. Due to this, Ei did go through many troubles of her own and of her development. It was around this time where Koemi vaguely mentions that she “disregarded his emotional needs”.At some point, during their elementary-middle school years when Koemi faced mistreatment from his classmates and where their relationship began to become strained, Ei told him that she would not protect him. It was later revealed that she did not mean this with ill intent. In fact, she wanted him to be able to protect himself, as she would not always be able to be by his side. Koemi didn’t understand at the time, and sometimes doesn’t attempt to understand in the present, so he became distant from Ei.Ei is a recent law school graduate, and spends most of her time working overseas, she does photography as a side job during her free time. Koemi usually contacts Ei whenever COSPRO, or Ensemble Square, needs a photographer, so there are times where she can be found wandering about.
